These are a few photos from the Gaithersburg Book Festival. I appreciate that the festival is growing its comic-related programming and while this year’s was mostly focused on middle-grade and young adult comics, it was still delightful to see the response.
Both the signing lines for Raina Telgemeier and Rachel Renee Russell (who is the creator of Dork Diaries) were never-ending. You have no idea how awesome it is to see a whole generation of girls lined up to meet their favorite author — an author who just happens to be a woman who makes comics (in Russell’s case, she works with her two daughters, which makes it even cooler).
I hope to see the comics programming continue to expand at the Gaithersburg Book Festival. The organizers have obvious enthusiasm for it and I’m happy to welcome it.
